The inaugural Richard L. Lindstrom Lecture will be held at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery annual meeting in July.

The lecture and medal recognize Lindstrom’s contributions to and influence on ASCRS, ophthalmology and the cataract, cornea, refractive and glaucoma subspecialties of anterior segment surgery over the last 40 years, according to a press release. Lindstrom, who is OSN Chief Medical Editor, has fostered collaboration with industry to advance the specialty and patient care.

He was previously honored with society’s highest awards, delivering the Binkhorst Lecture in 2003 and the Charles D. Kelman Innovator’s Lecture in 2011, and has held numerous positions at ASCRS, including president.
“I am very humbled by the lecture and symposium my colleagues at ASCRS have created in my name. Since 1978, ASCRS has been a guiding light in my ophthalmology career and remains so today,” Lindstrom told Healio/OSN.

The Lindstrom Lecture will honor an ophthalmologist who has made significant contributions to one of Lindstrom’s areas of ophthalmic interest.

“ASCRS has been a blessing to me and my practice for more than 4 decades and has influenced my career more than any other organization,” Lindstrom said in the release. “The lessons learned and friendships made are priceless.”
