Alfonso “Al” Cirrito, 79, of Ormond Beach, FL, and formerly of Niagara Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021, at Roswell Park Cancer Institute. Born in Niagara Falls, he was the son of the late Michael Angelo and Angeline (Viscomi) Cirrito.
Al graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1961 before enlisting in the United States Navy until his honorable discharge. He proudly served as Niagara Falls Police Officer from 1970 to 2002, and was famous for walking the Third Street beat. He was an excellent athlete and was a former President of the Police Athletic League, and loved planning the baseball trips.
Al was an excellent youth football coach for over 30 years with the Cataract Little League, where he led his teams to several championships and undefeated seasons. He enjoyed riding his motorcycles and was a longtime member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club, and the Bikers Against Child Abuse Florida Chapter. Al was also a member of the American Legion Post 1142 and a recipient of the Bob Laurie Award.
The Cirrito family wishes to thank the staff at Roswell for their compassion and excellent care during his time there. A thank you to his cousin and personal nurse, Jeanine.
Mr. Cirrito is survived by his wife, Wendy (Stackow) Cirrito; five children, Ronald (Sandy) Cirrito, Richard (Megan) Cirrito, Lacinda (Lucian Fermo) Armele, Edward (Jennifer) and Olivia Cirrito; his grandchildren, Ryan Armele (Tea Jastrzemski), Amanda Fermo, Stephano Cirrito (Marlee Hillard), Benjamin Trotter, Nicole Cirrito, Nico (Melissa) Cirrito, Michael Cirrito, Miranda Cirrito (John), Alyssa Cirrito; and one great-grandson, Giovanni Cirrito. He will also be sadly missed by many whose lives he touched, especially his first wife, Elaine Abersold; his sister-in-law, Laura Stackow; and brother-in-law, Robert (Veronica) Stackow, and their three children; as well as his dogs that he loved and cherished. Al was predeceased by his brother, Mario Cirrito.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 21 from 4-8 PM at M.J. COLUCCI & SON NIAGARA FUNERAL CHAPEL, 2730 Military Road, Niagara Falls, NY. Al’s Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday at 10 AM in Holy Family Parish at St. Joseph Church, 1413 Pine Avenue, Niagara Falls, NY. Military Honors and interment will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.
